There is no god of this webpage, just me. I also am not towing (sic) any party line. I apologize that you were turned off. The line that I am toeing is common sense, and maybe a little morality in our politics. I find it despicable that the people who control the lives of so many people are only concerned with a few.

I have not doubt that there is evil in both political parties, and I question the motives behind the Democrats playing the victim in the debt ceiling argument. I am not sure it is not a good cop/bad cop routine, all designed to meet the same ends.

Anarchy is not what I would call a good idea. I understand that anarchy sounds better than what we currently have. I am a supporter of government and regulations that are necessary to reign in disaster capitalists. Our current government regulations are almost an inverse of what I think is necessary, and it shows.

What this country really could use would be election reform, with IRV that would allow other political parties to seriously factor into our federal/state/local governments. This would make the representatives accountable to the voting population, not to corporate sponsors.

Again, thanks for reading, and I look forward to hearing more from you.

MJC

Re: Some Interesting History On The Debt Ceiling

To the god of this web page and for the author of this article .I was going through this article that you, Chadwick, wrote up until I saw that you were towing a party line. Complete turn off to me. Now I know you're not here to entertain just people who don't care for Dems or Repubs or even the many, many of us who are Anarchists and do not care for the oppressive government, so I will still be coming back to read. You do , after all, have a unique site here. That I enjoy very much.

If you'll look into the tactics of these political parties you will see that it has a very hard core underbelly of coercion. Neither truly is about altruistic values and this is VERY sad indeed.

Re: The Most Reasonable Man In America: Pt 1

Pat Buchanan loves this...that is if Pat Buchanan understands this. The reason I say that is that in the first edition, and a point which I failed to include here is that Perry loves him some federal money.

There is no principled conservatives out there any more, and if there are, they are now called Democrats.

Perry took the stimulus money, and the day he endorsed the check; he denounced federal spending, all while giving himself credit for a balanced budget, which was what the entire stimulus check went to.

Re: The Country Of Texas Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Treaties

If Perry feels so strongly about the federal government having too much power over the states and wants to really send a message then he should back out of the law that raised the drinking age to 21. This mandate which President Reagan approved required all states to set their drinking age at 21 or lose federal money for highways. Setting the age at 18 would certainly send a message and he could legally do that, but then he'd have to find the money in Texas to repair the roads. More than likely he'd claim the Texas Legislature wants to keep the drinking age at 21, but a principled conservative would still reject the money.

Re: The Country Of Texas Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Treaties

The southern 13 counties want to become a state, because they feel the north is pulling them down financially. But, then I reviewed your past post as suggested. Very interesting and well written. You're on FI-YAH (fire) MJ! Nice article. PS. I couldn't find an image of Barry Manilow in any type of sports car, let alone a DeLorean, so I settled on this one of him wearing a skin tight tee-shirt emblazened with the mantra, "I love Beagles". America loves a scandal. It's hard for Weiner, I'm sure. I am particularly stiff in my in my position that this kind of story is not what should dominate the news. Erection of a more rock solid and reliable news source that does not bend to the urge of covering these kinds of stories and sticks to the stories that matter is what we need. A news station that will not go off half-cocked and is part of my basic cable package.

Seriously though I only have one thing to say about the whole thing: What an idiot! Have you seen his wife? Good lord.

Re: Rick Scott: Pee Is For Profit

I have a lot to say about this comment. I think you have an axe to grind with welfare recipients, but I don't have a ton of time right now, so I'll just make a few quick comments.

First and foremost, thank you for being honest about your feelings, and for commenting. Discussion is paramount if the actual human beings that are affected by these policies are to understand and get through the agendas that are pushed onto us by the traditional "news" sources. That being said, the left wishes to advocate a social safety net, and does not stand to gain anything, monetarily speaking, by backing these policies. The gain is the intangible gift of being gracious and doing the right thing.

Another point: your 50% estimate is outlandish. Abusing the system? You qualify abuse by families asking for food baskets? Do you do the grocery shopping? The menial amount of money that is received through assistance is not enough to eat with, let alone enjoy a few "creature comforts." That aside, it is just plain nuts to contend that 50% of people on welfare are abusing drugs. In fact I would be willing to bet that you would be shocked to find that a percentage that is much, much lower than that would constitute welfare recipients that even USE illicit drugs. Welfare is not a lavish way of life, and there is not a lot of disposable income. If you were forced to live for three months on welfare, alone, I bet you would have a different view.

Your contention that welfare recipients should be drug tested because "we pay for them" is a little presumptuous. I would argue that the recipients of welfare are not being paid for by the workers, but that the workers are paying a cost to better our society. There is clearly a difference of opinion, but if we were in the same room, along with a person who receives welfare, would you feel they were indebted to you? I sure wouldn't.

As far as the training to enter the welfare system; you are definitely familiar with the cuts in education and where they are the heaviest. Isn't that taking away, or seriously neutering the opportunity to be successful when you start behind the proverbial 8-ball? (no pun intended) There is always the list of 6-7 millionaires that came from "nothing," but the majority of the people with money come from money, as do the majority of people that feel cheated by the welfare system.

Another quick point, looking at this a different way, is that the politicians are directly employed by "the people," and receive checks that are taken from our taxes. Should they all be drug tested? What about all of the CEO's that are employed by firms that receive government contracts or bailouts? Mandatory drug testing is a slippery slope, but for a guy like Snyder, who will make millions off of it; thinking along lines of people over profit is a foreign concept.

I feel that your opinion has been unfairly skewed by those that abuse the system, who I do not deny exist, but not in the numbers you feel they do. Those are the individuals that you hear about; not the people that are barely eeking out an existence on welfare. They don't wear welfare as a badge of honor, and tend to fly under the radar.

Again, I am pressed for time, but I feel I made some valid points, and hope to add more later.

Always a pleasure.

Re: Rick Scott: Pee Is For Profit

I definitely agree that drug testing in the work place is an invasion of privacy. However, I still strongly back the drug testing of welfare recipients since they do receive our money. From my experience, first hand, I have seen many people on welfare, who also abuse drugs. I said ABUSE, not use. These were parents who would not have enough money for groceries and would ask for food baskets, they also would get banned from local food banks, for going around and trying to take advantage of kindness. Since they didn't have enough money for food, they wouldn't be able to feed their kids properly and they would complain about that, not having enough. If you asked them if they were still smoking weed, they'd say yes, sometimes being so blatantly honest they'd admit to smoking a few times a day.
They also had cell phone bills and $100+ internent/tv bills. This is way too common. I am not bashing people on welfare, because probably 50% of people on it don't abuse it, but I definitely would estimate that 50% of recipients DO ABUSE it. There are many different ways. But the biggest one that pisses me off, is the way they use their access cards. Talk to anyone who works in grocery stores and they will confirm some of the ridiculous things they buy, with no nutritional value, and is just plain wasteful, they don't even care to budget their money like a decent human being. In additional, another part of that subject that really irks me, I have read studies and watched investigative reports, is how small corner shops will allow recipients to buy anything they want, AND get cash back!!! People will walk in, use their ACCESS card and buy a carton of ciggs and ask for $400 cash back. The establishment is partaking in a serious case of fraud. People will also buy phone cards, cell phones whatever, and then even go and sell them. All from the money that comes out of our pockets. You might ask, how does this happen? Because when a store sends in their receipts, it does not have to be itemized, it just has to state how much the total bill came to. The small business loves doing this because it's easy money in their pocket, and they know that customer will tell his buddies, and more will soon come.

Unfortunately, welfare fraud is much more common than people realize, And I understand why some are so hesitant on believing the reports they see on main stream media. The last form of fraud that was very common, was in regards to how many individuals living in the home. Assistance is based off a households total income, which includes forms of assistance. It's very common in cities, that you will have 5 adults living in a small apartment, sometimes having children each of their own. Each adult is receiving assistance for themselves and their children, but list themselves as the sole adult in the home. Other times, you have families, who either have their children taking away (for abuse or serious neglect) but still claim them, so they still receive a few hundred a month to help meet their needs, when they are not even caring for them. This really should piss you off, since your tax dollars are already being spent, to either house the children in residential facilities or to pay foster parents. This scenario happens so often its ridiculous, even more so when a teenager runs away, or decides to go live somewhere else, typically with a relative or a family friend.

My last note, is that children who grow up under these situations of welfare fraud, are taught how to abuse the system, they learn first hand that they can do nothing, and get money handed to them, you just have to learn the tricks. You'd laugh if you saw some of the "instruction manuals" that go around on the streets explaining how to do this.

Just last week, my wife came across a child in her school that said, " I don't have to learn, I will just get a check from the government each month when I get older like my mom!"

I came across this DAILY when working in a residential facility in Pittsburgh... It's absolutely sickening... Bill Cosby has made some amazing comments about the abuse of welfare these days, about a mentality of minorities that feel that they are entitled to whatever they want, and that they do not have to work for anything... He could not be more accurate, however, many people try to say that he's being racist by stating the facts.

Re: Republican Headquarters

Love the random teabags hanging everywhere. haha
